Enhancing photos with filters

The power of digital photography is amazing, and one of its most impressive aspects is that you can immediately see the effect of a photo manipulation. (See the left side of Figure 3-1.) You can easily apply a filter to a photo in Photoshop and instantly see how a modification affects the image. You can even save a “before and after” comparison so that you can undo the filter and see the original effect that is being undone.

GIMP offers a similar view, as shown in Figure 3-2. You can use the preset filters or customize them with filters of your own.

You can apply filters to other images as well, such as via the Apply Filter tool (Tools ▸ Apply Filter) in the Layer or Effects panel.

Anyhow, I’ve been thinking about my love for Harry Potter, and have come up with a rather brilliant idea. What about a Harry Potter Fanfic Encyclopedia? I mean, this would be an incredible resource for Harry Potter fans – after all, it would give us all a fresh perspective on the source material. We could read J.K Rowling’s work, and then compare it to the idea and descriptions of the characters and the story as described by fans on the internet.

To begin with, we need to delve into the early character description that J.K. Rowling had originally written for us.
