Last night, we watched as reports from the polls were being called and the probabilities of an election victory were squashed one by one. My heart sank into my boots. My community and my family have been appalled that Donald Trump would be the President of the United States.

My community is diverse, liberal and inclusive in every respect. I have lived, worked and have grown up amongst people from all over the world. We celebrate our differences and rely on each other to help one another through life’s challenges. I would never have thought that I would see a Canadian President of the United States while I live here. But, yesterday, we witnessed the Presidential election results, and the results were unexpected and unfortunate.

My community on both sides of the border are incredibly proud to have Canada as their flag. Canada is a beautiful country with a flag which inspires, informs and mobilizes Canadians to take pride in their country.
